Gluten-Free Travel Guide: Madrid Itinerary

Madrid Travel Guide For Gluten Free Travelers

Madrid is one of my absolute favorite destinations for gluten-free travel, and these itineraries are designed to make your trip effortless, exciting, and—most importantly—delicious.

Whether you’re dreaming of exploring world-famous museums, sipping coffee in sun-drenched plazas, or indulging in Spain’s vibrant food scene (without the stress of cross-contamination), this guide has you covered.

You’ll get a mix of must-see sights, hidden local gems, and, of course, thoroughly researched gluten-free dining options—because I plan my trips around food first! Plus, I’ve included recommendations for places to stay, markets to explore, and even some nightlife and outdoor adventures to round out your experience. You’ll also receive my Gluten Free Walking Tour for free!

A Travel Itinerary Designed For Autoimmune Travelers

I create my itineraries with flexibility in mind, so you can follow them exactly or adjust as you go. Each day is thoughtfully structured with a main plan and additional options, making it easy to do more (or less) depending on how you’re feeling, ensuring you get the most out of Madrid no matter your accommodation needs.

You’ll receive a PDF itinerary with recommendations on where to stay, transportation information, a day by day itinerary broken up by morning, afternoon, and evening options. Your daily itinerary has suggested times but without a strict schedule to follow – so no need to worry if you don’t have the energy to keep up.

All locations are hyperlinked to Google Maps for effortless navigation, and food recommendations are carefully chosen based on my own experiences as a celiac traveler who’s sensitive to cross-contamination. While not every spot is 100% gluten-free, I’ve made sure to only include locations that have safe options for celiacs and have been vetted by actual people with celiac disease (often myself!). I’ve also highlighted places that offer dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan choices to help meet multiple dietary needs.

I prefer to travel at a leisurely pace on a mid-level budget, prioritizing food and a comfortable hotel to help manage my symptoms. I fill the rest of my day with free or inexpensive activities like relaxing in parks, people-watching, window shopping, and sightseeing. I always plan for a few major experiences, with smaller optional activities that I can add in based on my energy level.

I plan my itinerary’s in a similar way, also including additional activities you may find more interesting. Whether you like to pack your days full or take things slow, this itinerary makes sure you have access to incredible food and memorable experiences without the stress of figuring it all out on the go.
